PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Since 2013, the government has provided additional funding specifically to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.  This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport – is allocated to primary schools based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6.

At Chipping Ongar we take pride in being able to provide a wide range of opportunities in PE and sport across the key stages.  Pupils have participated competitively in football, tag rugby, cross country, netball, athletics, table tennis and karate as well as in festivals such as KS1 Multi-Skills and the Dance Festival for the district held at our School. We have a range of after school and lunchtime sports activities available to all pupils with thanks to external coaches and time generously given by school staff.

Since 2013, we are held accountable over how we spend our additional ring-fenced funding.  Since its inception, this funding has enabled us to provide both new equipment and expertise in a variety of ways, including:

  • An outdoor gymnasium with modern equipment for fitness and fun
  • Two outdoor table tennis tables to complement our existing provision for indoor table tennis
  • A new Key Stage 1 play area to encourage safe but exciting physical activity at playtime
  • The installation of a running track to enable all of our pupils to participate in the ‘Daily Mile’.

The provision of this equipment ensures that our improvements are sustainable for future year groups due to its longevity.

We have also used the funding for the hire of specialist PE teachers and qualified sports coaches to work with teachers when teaching PE, and use it to provide places for pupils on after school sports clubs.
